Visitor information

At the moment, a visit inside the "Walpersberg" area is not yet possible.
The Förderverein "Mahn- und Gedenkstätte Walpersberg" e.V. is working hard to create a permanent visit and documentation centre for the public.

The support of the responsible authorities is important, but there is still a long bureaucratic journey ahead. We hope you understand this situation and do regularly visit this website, which will enable you to receive the latest updates.

Of course there are still many other areas of interest around the Walpersberg Mountain to discover.

Should you decide to visit these sites, or if you would like to undertake a guided tour, this information may be of use:

  • Near the Hermsdorfer motorway junction, between the A4 and A9
  • A4 motorway exit marked Jena-G√∂schwitz,
  • Take the B88 in the direction of Rudolstadt,
  • Travel approximately 10km, until you reach Grosseutersdorf

The Walpersberg Mountain, around 1 Km from the town of Kahla, in the middle of the Saaletal Valley near Grosseutersdorf, has an elevation of 311 m above sea level and stretches from the East to the West and has an island-shaped form. It extends from the South untill the Dehnatal Valley and in the North to the Reinstädter Grund. A number of roads are found through both valleys:

Kahla - Dienstädt - Grosskochberg and Kahla - Reinstädt - Bad Berka.

In the centre of Grosseutersdorf, on the B88, take a right hand turn and go towards Eichenberg/Dienstädt. Just after making the turn, turn immediately right again (in front of the church) and there is an access road going straight up to the "Walpersberg".
