Visit from Ireland, 10 June 2023

Some time ago Mrs. Ernst contacted us, who referred to our article about the former mayor Karl Budina, 1945, in the Kahlaer Nachrichten. We were amazed to learn the background of the call. This article had reached Joan, the surviving daughter of Karl Budina, still residing in Ireland.. She was planning a trip to Kahla and wanted to meet us. On Saturday, June 10th, we met in the city museum. 91-year-old Joan Fischer-Budina was accompanied by her daughter Sheila, granddaughter Anett and her American husband Chris and their daughter.

The tour of the museum and the exhibition on the history of REIMAHG inspired everyone. In the museum cafe with Katrin, we had enough time for the actual reason for her visit, what connected her father with the REIMAHG, exchange of memories, documents, photos from that time and information from the personal point of view of Joan, the eyewitness.

We had all of our archives with us and the family was impressed as it contained several pieces of information that were new to them. It was a very emotional afternoon marked by new friendships. The farewell was very warm and it was clear that we would keep in touch.
